Elwood F. Laudenslager
Elwood F. “Sonny” Laudenslager, 94, formerly of Orefield, died Nov. 9, 2025, at Heather Glen Senior Living, Upper Macungie Township. He was the husband of the late Lucille A. (Miller) Laudenslager. Born in Schnecksville, he was the son of the late Charles Joseph and Miriam Pearl (Stahley) Laudenslager.
He was a 1949 graduate of the last class at South Whitehall High School. He was president and owner of E.F. Laudenslager, Inc. in Orefield from 1965-1994. Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member of Jordan Evangelical Lutheran Church, Orefield, where he formerly served as president of the church council, taught Sunday School and was cochairman of the remodeling of the memory room.
In 2023, he was registered for 83 years of Scouting by the Minsi Trails Council, BSA. He was a Scoutmaster for nine years and proudly attended 15 National BSA Jamborees. He served as camp director of Camp Trexler 1965–1966. He served on the Minsi Trails Council Executive Board, was awarded the Council Alumni of the Year award, the James E. West Fellowship Award, the 1910 Society Endowment Award and the Silver Beaver Award. He espoused the Scouting virtues of honesty, integrity, morality and ethical values that prepare youth for a purposeful and honorable life.
In 1967-1968, he served as president of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club in Schnecksville. The club recognized his efforts by awarding him a Melvin Jones Fellow for his dedicated humanitarian service from The Lions Club International Foundation.
He is survived by children, Stephen E. and his wife, Joy, of Slatington, Karen L. Thirion and her husband, Timothy, of Belle Plaine, Minn., Teresa J and her husband, Michael Kuncio, of Macungie; grandchildren, Joshua, Marci, Chelsea, Laure, Nichole; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Addison, Taylor, Ivan.
He was predeceased by sister, Viola Allerton, Elaine Hunsicker, Carol Danner.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at Jordan Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5103 Snowdrift Road, Orefield with the Rev. Dody S. Siegfried officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville and 10-11 a.m. Nov. 15 in the church.
