EHS girls volleyball tops PHS
The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team ended the regular season on a high note and began the postseason the same way last weekend.
The Hornets got some revenge on rival Parkland after having lost to the Trojans just two weeks before by defeating them in five sets last Wednesday at Emmaus High School in the regular season finale.
The Hornets secured the two seed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference tournament and won their quarterfinal round game in straight sets over the seventh seed, Pocono Mountain West this past Saturday.
Parkland took two of the first three sets last week, but Emmaus responded and made sure to win for its seniors on their home court in the last regular season match.
Scores were 18-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-11, 15-12. Amanda Rivera finished with 18 kills and 17 digs. Fiona Answini tallied 12 kills. Alyssa Heffner recorded 43 assists, eight kills and two aces. Corinne Slivka led the defense with 29 digs and added five aces. Haley Seidel contributed 18 digs and Sophia Freemont had 19 digs.
Scores in the EPC quarterfinal match were 25-8, 25-23, 25-13. Rivera paced the attack with 11 kills. Answini finished with eight kills, two blocks and two digs. Rosie Landino had six kills and two digs. Heffner tallied 28 assists and three kills. Freemont notched 17 digs and Slivka had 16.
Emmaus advanced to the semifinal round and took on the third seed, Freedom, this past Tuesday. The winner plays the winner of the matchup between the top seed, Bethlehem Catholic, and fourth seed Parkland in the championship match Thursday night.
The Hornets defeated the Patriots in four sets in the lone regular season matchup back on Sept.19.
