The Emmaus field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Downingtown West Saturday, 2-1 in overtime.
The Hornets fell behind when the Whippets’ Vivienne Quinn scored in the first quarter.
Emmaus tied the game on a goal by Sadie Nawarynski, assisted by Sarah Palazzo in the second quarter.
After a scoreless second half, Scarlett Wood scored the game-winner on a corner play in overtime for Downingtown (10-3 overall).
The Hornets outshot the Whippets 21-14 and held an 11-5 advantage in corners.
Emmaus goalie Emily Romano made nine saves in the loss, while Kaitlyn Carter and Madi Lenig each had one defensive save.
The Hornets remained unbeaten in East Penn Conference play with a 4-0 win over Nazareth last Wednesday.
Palazzo scored a pair of goals in the win, while teammates Morgann Orobono and Gracie Huffer scored one each. Huffer also assisted on two goals, while Lenig and Ady Truckenmiller had one assist each.
Emmaus outshot the Blue Eagles 15-1 and had five corners to Nazareth’s one.
Emmaus (15-1 overall; 12-0 EPC) enters this week with one league game and one nonconference game remaining on the regular season schedule. They Hornets host Parkland Tuesday and travel to Phillipsburg on Thursday.
