After his team’s season-opening loss to Pennsbury, Northwestern boys soccer head coach Nate Hunsicker said “27-1 still looks good on a sweatshirt.”
Coming into the final game of the season, that 27-1 mark is still possible.
The Colonial League playoffs will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday of next week with the sites and times to be announced soon.
While Northwestern came into last year’s postseason undefeated, this year’s team has the same goals as that team.
After Northwestern plays at Kutztown in the season finale, its sights officially turn to the league playoffs.
Northwestern rolled to three wins over the past week, beating Wilson 5-2 and then downing rival Northern Lehigh 11-0 in the Tigers final home game of the season. Tuesday night, Northwestern added a 9-1 win over Catasauqua to its record.
Logan Mesics continues to roll in his final season.
The senior had five goals and five assists in the two home games, including feeding other players four times in the win over the Bulldogs. Classmate Caelan Stangil had three goals and three assists, while junior Cole Mertz had five goals and three assists.
Mesics has 88 points on the season and leads the team with 33 goals, a career high. Mertz has 30 goals and Stangil has 25 for Northwestern.
The Tigers hold the top seed in the league playoffs and will face either Pen Argyl or Saucon Valley in the opening round of league playoffs.
Saucon Valley (3-7-2) needs to beat Palisades (9-3-1) in their season finale to catch Pen Argyl for the final spot in the league playoffs.
