LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LIBERTY HS NEWS by Ella Sherman

We are well into the 2025-26 school year at Liberty HS, and as always the Hurricanes have taken this year by storm.

The annual Liberty-Freedom rivalry football game occurred Oct. 25.

In the week leading up to the event, Spirit Week was in full swing. Students participated in annual activities such as hallway decorating, flag football and the bonfire, as well as theme days including “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” and “Throwback Thursday.”

The game resulted in a huge victory for the Canes, with a final score of 42-40 making them City Champs for the first time since 2019.

As if that win wasn’t enough, they also faced Freedom the next Saturday for round 1 of District 11 playoffs. This match also resulted in a big win, with a final score of 26-14.

This week, they played the Easton Rovers which unfortunately resulted in a 38-20 loss, putting an end to the season.

The football team hasn’t been the only sport with success this season. The boys soccer team had a historic playoff run that ended in a loss to Emmaus during semifinals.

Although they didn’t make it far in the playoffs, the field hockey team also had an exciting season. “Our team this season consisted of a lot of young, very talented girls,” said junior Maddy Orlicki. “With the chemistry of their talents and the skills and leadership of our upperclassmen, we were able to consistently play incredible hockey. Even against notably tough teams, we always put up a great fight. We made every team work extra hard for their opportunities, which they weren’t prepared for.” Overall, the team is excited for what is to come next season and beyond.

Another standout came from our cross country team with sophomore Elizabeth McClarin placing 13th overall at states.

Within the arts department, both the Choraliers and Liberty HS Theater Company are gearing up for big performances.

LHSTC is performing “Anne of Green Gables” Nov. 14 and 16. Senior Andrew Bays is one of the company’s theater leaders this year and will be taking on the role of Gilbert Blythe. “It’s about an adopted girl and all of her imaginative adventures in her small town,” Bays said. “Come see this super cute and heartwarming show.”

On the other hand, Liberty Choraliers has its annual holiday concerts Dec. 12 and 15. It is expected to fill up, so be sure to get your tickets in advance.
