‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ opens Nov. 6

Emmaus High School’s fall play, “The Diary of Anne Frank” will be performed 7 p.m. Nov. 6, 7 and 8 in the school auditorium. Tickets can be purchased on the EHS website.

According to Artistic Director and Producer Jill Kuebler, the play is newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman.

“In this transcendently powerful new adaptation, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit and determination,” Kuebler said.

“An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence – their fear, their hope, their laughter and their grief.

“The production of this show has allowed for the coordination of some impactful learning opportunities. Our cast and crew traveled to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. to experience their permanent and special exhibitions. We forged a partnership with the Holocaust Resource Center of the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley and, thanks to the expertise of Director Shari Spark and Curator Marylou Lordi, students had the opportunity to enhance their learning through discussion and interaction with historical artifacts.

“The Legacy Exhibit which is installed in the common area near the lobby is provided courtesy of The Holocaust Resource Center. The exhibit will be installed in the EHS library following the run of our show.

“At the request of the students, Ms. Spark coordinated the incredible opportunity for them to learn firsthand about the life of Michele Willner Levy, a Holocaust survivor and a member of our EHS family. Ms. Levy shared her life story with our cast and crew, an experience for which all of us are truly grateful. We thank her for her willingness to be part of our learning process.”

Kuebler said she is grateful to her production team and every student involved with the show “for their dedication and respect for those who lived through this difficult period in history.”

During the show, the production will raise funds for The Anne Frank Center USA, an organization dedicated to honoring Anne Frank’s legacy. No donation is too small.

“Thank you, as always, for your support of the arts at Emmaus High School,” Kuebler said.
