SHS students give back in blood drives and Red Ribbon Week
Salisbury High School is continuing to shine this fall with events that keep everyone involved. From saving lives through blood donation to promoting healthy choices and celebrating the arts, there’s something meaningful happening for every Falcon.
One major event coming soon is the fall blood drive, which will take place 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 11 in the auxiliary (old) gym.
Students aged 16 or older, in good health and weighing more than 110 lbs. are encouraged to participate and help make a difference. Appointments during the school day can be scheduled at lunch or by contacting one of the blood drive coordinators: Gwyn DeFazio (gdefazio26@salisburysd.org), Caroline Gedney (cgedney26@salisburysd.org), Meredith Kelley (mkelley26@salisburysd.org), Adrienne Kipp (akipp27@salisburysd.org), Ellie Schneider (eschneider27@salisburysd.org) or Mrs. Basile (mbasile@salisburysd.org).
Those looking to donate after school can make appointments between 2:30 and 6 p.m. either at lunch, through a coordinator, or by visiting www.GIVEaPINT.org and using Sponsor Code 0490. Students who take the bus home should schedule appointments before 2 p.m., as later times will interfere with bus dismissal.
If you’re 16 years old, don’t forget to complete the required permission slip (both sides) before the blood drive. Plus, dedicated donors who give four times during high school earn the High School Hero Red Cord to wear at graduation.
SHS students celebrated their Falcon pride by participating in Red Ribbon Week Oct. 27-31.
Sponsored by the student club STARs, this nationally recognized campaign promotes a drug-free lifestyle through a week of themed activities and prizes.
On Oct. 27, students signed a pledge for healthy living and added it to the red ribbon wall.
On Oct. 28, the Red Ribbon Scavenger Hunt was held, with red ribbons hidden around the school and prizes awarded during Falcon Period.
Students were encouraged to wear red to show support for a drug-free life Oct. 29.
Students were invited to dress as a pair that goes together and have their photos taken during Falcon Period Oct. 30.
Red Ribbon Week wrapped with Halloween celebrations, where students grabbed a goody bag and got a temporary tattoo from STARs members in the cafeteria during breakfast.
Finally, Salisbury’s talented theater department is taking the stage this November with the classic comedy “Harvey.”
The play opens Nov. 6 and runs through Nov. 9. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets for the opening night performance are available now via links on Salisbury’s social media pages and tickets for all shows will also be sold at the door. Don’t miss this amazing show!
From giving back through blood donation to promoting positive choices and celebrating the arts, Salisbury High School continues to prove Falcons soar the highest when they come together for good.
