The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners has approved an ordinance to modify parking for people with disabilities.

Commissioners voted 5-0 at the Oct. 23 meeting to approve the ordinance. Commissioner Alex Karol made the motion, seconded by commissioners Vice President Rodney Conn, to bring the ordinance to a vote.

Commissioners approved the recommending of accessible parking spaces, thereby empowering the enforcement of said zones, the ordinance states. Also:

The Salisbury Township Police Department is charged with accepting requests, reviewing and recommending approval of the special spaces, states the ordinance.

The township reserves the right to establish policies and procedural requirements regarding special purpose zones.

The aforesaid policies and procedures may include, but are not limited to, processing of requests and applications, submission requirements, regulations regarding maintaining specialty status, revocation procedures and approval or denial for procedural matters

The procedures and policies may be amended, when necessary, by recommendation of the chief of police and approval by the township manager or board of commissioners, according to the ordinance.

Procedures and enforcement requirements will be the responsibility of the chief of police and the township manager, and approval and revocation of any special purpose parking zone will be enacted by the township commissioners by ordinance.

The following subsections were added to Section 407 of Chapter 15 of the Ordinance:

“The township reserves the right to establish policies and procedures regarding requests of special purpose parking zones. These procedures and enforcement requirements will be the responsibility of the chief of police and the township manager.

“Said policies and procedures may include, but are not limited to, processing of requests and applications, submission requirements, regulations regarding maintaining specialty status, revocation procedures and approval or denial for procedural matters.
