Joseph J. Scalleat Jr.

of Allentown

Joseph James Scalleat Jr., “Joe Brown,” 82, of Allentown, formerly of Hazleton and Schnecksville, died Nov. 1, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Maria E. (Camiola) Scalleat. Born in Hazleton, Luzerne County, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Carsia) Scalleat.

He was a graduate of Point Park College, Class of 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He was a man of many trades with his employment ranging in industries such as education, fashion and auto sales. He had been working most recently as a state auditor.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield.

He will be forever remembered as a devoted husband, loving and giving father, dedicated Pop-Pop and someone who received joy from always being surrounded by his family. He enjoyed going to the beach, playing sports and watching sporting events. He loved snowmobiling and fishing.

He is survived by children, Jolene M. Miller (Billy), of New Tripoli, Joseph C., of Alburtis, Marissa D., of New Tripoli; grandchildren, Brianamarie, Jessica, Lennox, Layla, Lily; step-grandchildren, Dalton, Kiersten.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Nicco J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Nov. 7 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield. The Rev. (Fr.) Nikolai R. Brelinsky will be the celebrant. Family and friends may pay their respects 10-11 a.m. before the Mass.
