Hawks win district title!

Bethlehem Catholic won the 3A girls volleyball title, handing the Spartans their first loss of the season in the process. The Hawks needed four games: 25-18, 27-29, 25-18, 25-17, last Thursday night in Catasauqua. Jocelyn Bell, a junior, helped secure the final point with a kill in final set after Solehi took an early lead. Bell had five kills in the first set win for the Hawks.

Sophia Bedics had 14 kills and three service points along with an ace. Senior Theresa Ruhl added seven kills in the win.

The Hawks (23-1) played District 3 runner-up Middletown in Tuesday’s opening round of the PIAA tournament, but the game comes after Press deadlines.

The East Penn Conference volleyball all-stars were announced recently with Central Catholic’s Emerson Springs taking home MVP honors.

Three Bethlehem players were named to the first team with Bethlehem Catholic’s Bell and Piper Ruggiero being joined by Freedom’s Landry Guman.

In 4A, Parkland outlasted Emmaus in five games to win districts, as both teams head to the PIAA tournament.
