Community tree planting at Raines Park Nov. 15
Alburtis Borough Council held its regular meeting Oct. 29 at Alburtis Borough Hall, following a 6:45 p.m. executive session to discuss personnel matters. Council President Ron DeIaco called the public meeting to order 7:12 p.m. Council members expressed how happy they were with the Alburtis Halloween Parade during public comment. Council then approved the minutes from the Oct. 8 meeting and authorized payment of the borough’s current bills.
Mayor Kathleen Palmer did not have a report, although she was also very impressed with the parade. The fiscal consultant’s report followed, noting the borough’s financial and revenue performance heading into the final quarter of the year.
Under new business, council voted to deny Ordinance No. 601, which would have established a new handicapped parking space on the westerly side of Flint Hill Road, across from 225 Flint Hill Road. There was disagreement on the standard for eligibility of the application.
Council then passed Resolution No. 2025-9, appointing Thomas Gorr to the Alburtis Planning Commission. Members expressed appreciation for Gorr’s willingness to serve and contribute to the borough’s planning efforts.
Next, several equipment and technology purchases were discussed and voted on. Council approved the acquisition of a utility locator kit to assist with infrastructure maintenance and a subscription to Esri GIS software to improve mapping and data management capabilities.
Police Chief Tony Alsleben’s request for a TC-400 radar sign was tabled for the next meeting.
Council next turned to personnel matters, approving the appointment of a new full-time police officer to the Alburtis Police Department. This was followed by the approval of a memorandum of understanding with the borough’s police officers’ association, reflecting continued collaboration and commitment to fair labor practices. There were worries about the rising costs of the police force, especially looking at future budgets.
Following a quick update from Lower Macungie, it was announced the electronic recycling event will take place 9-11 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Alburtis Fire Company. Palmer encouraged residents to take part in the environmental initiative.
In addition, the borough was awarded a Bareroot Tree Grant, which will fund a community tree planting at Raines Park Nov. 15. The event, to be held at the park’s upper ball field, will aim to enhance local green space and support environmental sustainability.
The meeting was then adjourned. The next Alburtis Borough Council meeting will be held 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at borough hall.
