There was double heartbreak in the District XI Class 4A boys soccer semifinals where Freedom and Liberty were stunned by Parkland and Emmaus, respectively, on Oct. 28.
Freedom fell to Parkland, 2-1, when the Trojans scored back-to-back goals in the final seven minutes of play.
The Patriots struck first on Gavin Lynch’s free kick late in the first half.
The score remained, 1-0, until the 73rd minute when Talmage Pollard and Lincoln Fritz found the back of the net for the Trojans.
Liberty lost its semifinal match to Emmaus on penalty kicks, 5-4.
On Oct. 4, the Hurricanes and Hornets played to a scoreless tie where penalty kicks aren’t played, but it’s what decided the district semifinal to break another scoreless tie.
Freedom, coached by Tyler Nolan, ended its season with a record of 16-4-3.
Liberty, coached by Jason Horvath, ended its season with a record of 13-6-2.
