Letter to the editor: Our peacemaker president

To the Editor:

Kudos to our president for his contributions leading to the fledgling peace between Israel and Gaza. His unique style of diplomacy was a good fit for that deadly situation, and he deserves credit for his role.

It would be wonderful if the president would now apply his peacemaking skills domestically. A good start would be to declare a ceasefire in his political war on Democrats and others who disagree with him. For example, he could withdraw the National Guard from “blue” cities, reverse holdbacks of taxpayer money from “blue” states, cities and local governments and tone down his confrontational rhetoric.

The president has a great opportunity to build upon his overseas peacemaking success by adjusting his combative governance approach to a more civil and politically flexible approach. This would lead to more and better deals and legislation, greater public good and increased domestic tranquility. And it would almost certainly improve the president’s standing and popularity among all Americans while enabling achievement of most of his and his party’s objectives.

It would be a win for us all: the president, Republicans, Democrats and others. If you agree, please call or message the president and your legislators to let them know.
