James Schmoyer

former Ice Cream World owner

James A. “Jim” Schmoyer, 82, of Emmaus, previously of Zionsville, died in his home surrounded by family Oct. 26, 2025. He was born in Allentown to Albert and Cora (Rau) Schmoyer.

He graduated from Kutztown University with an education degree and began teaching at Kings Highway Elementary School. A lifelong teacher, his “classroom” eventually moved to an ice cream store. From Carvel to Flagg’s Drive Inn and ultimately to Ice Cream World in Allentown, each season he had a new “class” of students as he trained that year’s team.

He owned and operated Ice Cream World for more than 30 years. He delighted generations of families with his kindness, dedication and welcoming smile.

He loved skiing, flying as a private pilot and was known for his sense of humor and playful jokes that brought laughter to family and friends alike.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine; children, Eric and his wife, Anabella, Kimberly Mac Iver and her husband, Allen, Allyson Nelson and her husband, Craig, Jesse Shaffer and his wife, Erica; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

He is predeceased by his brother, William.
