Coplay: Saengerbund plans dinner

The heritage committee of Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., will hold a schnitzel dinner 5-7 p.m. Nov. 8. There will be a choice of pork or chicken schnitzel with or without mushroom sauce, spaetzle or mashed potatoes, applesauce or red cabbage, green salad, roll with butter, dessert and coffee.

Takeout is available.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., is taking orders for its potato filling sale. There is a cost for either a 2-pound pan or a 13x9-inch pan.

Meal preorders are required by calling Karen at 610-653-2816 by Nov. 14. Pickup will be noon-2 p.m. Nov. 22 at the church.

American Club of Coplay, 300 Cherry St., is holding its annual turkey cash raffle Nov. 16 at the pavilion. Doors open noon, and drawings are 1-5 p.m.

Tickets are available at the social hall or at the club office. There will be lunch and refreshments for ticket holders.

With the federal government shut down, some SNAP program (food stamps) funding ended Nov. 1. Consider donating food to Coplay Food Bank.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St., is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month. If unable to attend the scheduled time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

Public works Director Paul Boyle reminds residents to only put loose leaves in cans as plastic bags with leaves will not be picked up. Leaf pickup will end Nov. 21.

Call the borough office at 610-262-6088 to schedule pickups of sofas, plastic-encased mattresses, chairs, dressers, etc. There is a limit of two per year at no charge.

Hometown Hero banner applications are available at the borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel — with a banner.

The Coplay Scholarship Fund Committee plans to award two $5,000 scholarships to Coplay graduates who enrolled in a university, college, technical school or the Allentown Police Academy. Email billleiner@aol.com for a scholarship application.

If you are from Coplay and desire to become a police officer, the CSFC will pay your tuition at the police academy. Email billleiner@aol.com for information.

Explorer Post 101’s mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading to 12- to 21-year-olds. Join the new Explorer Club for youths age 12-14. Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building.
