LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Moravian Academy By Jake Welton

Autumn goings-on

As cool winds roll across Moravian Academy’s campus, the Lions are engaging in all sorts of activities with their signature energetic buzz.

Moravian Academy’s golf season recently came to a close. Despite rocky losses in earlier matches threatening the Lions’ district placement, players rose to the challenge, securing pivotal victories against Northwestern and Saucon Valley and earning a spot in the district championships. As the last ball sank into hole 18 of their third consecutive District 11 match, Moravian triumphed, even beating rivals Notre Dame by 11 strokes – a team it had lost to earlier this season. Golf captain Mara Dubacher (‘26) also made history, becoming the fourth girl in District 11 history to win an individual district title four years in a row. “I’m really happy with my fourth win – it feels like all my hard work has paid off,” says Dubacher, who has gone on to place sixth at the Pennsylvania state final.

In other news, Moravian’s girls soccer team finished its final match with vigor. Despite scattered losses throughout the season, the team obtained a satisfying victory against rival Notre Dame in a high-energy match. Making it to the Colonial Leagues, Moravian lost in the quarterfinal round against Palisades. But, to quote captain Elle Price (‘26), “When we go down, we come back every time.” In reflecting upon her position as a captain this year, Price says, “The dynamic was really great this year. All the girls were really comfortable with each other and brought great energy, even after losing key senior players last year.” No matter the trials they are put through, Moravian Lions continuously rise to the top, maintaining their spirit of pride and positivity. Price will go on to the University of Kentucky, where she has been recruited to play Division 1 soccer.

Outside of athletics, students have found myriad ways to unite as a student body in the after-school hours. At a Las Vegas-themed homecoming, students mingle and groove beneath the multicolored lights of the decked-out Athletic Wellness Center (or the “awk,” as Lions refer to it). At the annual Country Fair, attendees sunk Student Council members into the dunk tank and perused local business stalls. That same evening, students crowded into Dyer Auditorium for Open Mic Night. From belting to the tune of their favorite karaoke track to bursting into extemporaneous monologues, the Lions cheer their peers on as they brave the stage.

In more theater ongoings, the backstage hallways are scattered with costumes, and the auditorium is flooded with dance backtracks. The Lions are brewing up this year’s Coffeehouse performance – a mismatched and magical student variety show. “The energy is good, exciting, and chaotic in the best way,” says theater director Brooke Harrsch (Faculty). As students refine their talents through coaching sessions, they prepare to showcase the skills they cannot share during regular school days. “It’s a beautiful experience for me as a faculty member to see students grow. In their coaching sessions, I see them understanding their piece and bringing their true authentic selves forward,” Harrsch says. A quintessentially Moravian event, this year’s Coffeehouse will take place Friday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:30. Tickets will be available Nov. 7. Grab your cold brews and come celebrate the vibrant Moravian arts scene.

“Lion pride!” exclaims Leon Galitsky (Faculty), perfectly encapsulating our synergistic spirit in this season. As wind rustles the crisping leaves on the Moravian grounds, the Lions continue to champion their undertakings – from athletics to acrobatics, we consistently affirm our Lion culture.
