Resident asks for earlier access to meeting agendas

At the East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting Sept. 11, a township resident asked if the meeting’s agenda could be provided to the public several days before the actual meeting. The resident noted they listen to the meeting virtually via the link on the township’s Facebook page.

The resident said if the agenda is put out to the public earlier, other residents would have more time to review the agenda and perhaps formulate questions about the agenda items.

Township Manager Brent Green explained the agenda is usually placed on the township’s Facebook page the day before the meeting and on the township website — eatwp.org — the day of the meeting. Green acknowledged this does not solve the resident’s request.

Green added the township offers a Diligent program that any resident can enroll in by visiting the township website. When enrolled, the agenda and associated documents are posted on Diligent, which will have the requested documents at the earliest time.

Green reported the administration office would help interested residents enroll in Diligent.

In other business, supervisors approved a waiver request for the Nor-Bath Trail East extension project. The approval is conditional, based on Northampton County paying costs for any flooding issues and a Lehigh Valley Planning Commission recommendation. The issue of conditions was raised because the township engineer did not support the waiver request.

The request to authorize the replacement of the salt shed roof for $21,300 was approved by supervisors. Earlier this year, the roof at the salt shed was partially destroyed by heavy wind. The proposed cost is for labor costs only.

The purchase of materials for the salt storage shed roof replacement at a cost not to exceed $20,000 was approved.

Supervisors approved a payment application for $62,633.70 for the work completed, to date, for the public works roof replacement project.

There was discussion about the public works storage building at 7347 Driftwood Road. The plan is to upgrade the electric service, insulate the ceiling and walls, install a generator and more.

The fire department report for August included 33 total incidents, with 20 calls within the township. The ambulance service responded to 42 incidents during August.

Supervisors will next meet 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eatwp.org to review the meeting’s agenda and how to access the meeting virtually.
