Coplay: Coplay Garden Club scheduled to meet Oct. 30 at St. John’s

Coplay Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St. The club meets the last Thursday of the month.

Common Bond will perform Oct. 31 for the Halloween party at Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St. The event is open to the public.

The gates open 5 p.m., and the kitchen opens 5:30 p.m. The band will play until 10 p.m.

Trick or treat will be held 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Nov. 4 is Election Day. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Coplay Saengerbund’s heritage committee will hold a schnitzel dinner 5-7 p.m. Nov. 8. There will be a choice of pork or chicken schnitzel with or without mushroom sauce, spaetzle or mashed potatoes, applesauce or red cabbage, green salad, roll with butter, dessert and coffee.

Takeout is available.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is taking orders for its potato filling sale. There is a cost for either a 2-pound pan or a 13-by-9-inch pan.

Meal preorders are required by calling Karen at 610-653-2816 by Nov. 14. Pickup will be noon-2 p.m. Nov. 22 at the church.

American Club of Coplay, 300 Cherry St., is holding its annual turkey cash raffle Nov. 16 at the pavilion. Doors open noon, and drawings are 1-5 p.m.

Tickets are available for purchase at the social hall or at the club office. There will be free lunch and refreshments for ticket holders.

With the federal government shutdown, the SNAP program (food stamps) ends Nov. 1. Consider donating food to Coplay Food Bank. Help those in need have the food they need through the holidays.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St., is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

Hometown Hero banner applications are available at the borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters, and ambulance personnel — with a banner.

The Coplay Scholarship Fund Committee plans to award two $5,000 scholarships to Coplay graduates who enrolled in university, college, technical school or the Allentown Police Academy.

If you are from Coplay and desire to become a police officer, the CSFC will pay your tuition at the police academy.

Coplay aerobics classes are held 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the borough hall auditorium. Bring dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout.

There is a small cost by donation.

Explorer Post 101’s mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading to 12- to 21-year-olds. Join the new Explorer Club for youths age 12-14.

Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building.

Coplay American Legion Post 426 has an special mailbox in front of the Post at 134 S. Second St. Worn-out American flags can be deposited into the mailbox for the Post to properly destroy the flags.
