Soccer has always been part of Snyder’s life
Growing up, Northampton’s Joey Snyder knew soccer was going to be a staple in his life.
Siblings Ciarra and Anthony helped blaze the trail.
“They both played soccer all their life, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps,” noted Snyder. “This really helped grow my interest in the sport at a young age at around four or five.”
Some 12 years later, Snyder has continued to love the sport, and he has raised his game through the years. After playing club soccer for a long time, Snyder decided to join the high school team, and it has been very productive for him and the team.
The senior has played an integral role in the Konkrete Kids’ surging season, as he is a team captain and the team’s second-leading scorer with 15 goals and 15 assists.
Head coach Chris Bastidas certainly has appreciated Snyder’s presence and his pedigree.
“Joey is scoring a lot of goals for us, said Bastidas. “He was absolutely amazing in our games against Nazareth and Liberty. He had our lone goal in the tie against Nazareth, and had a goal and an assist in our big win over Liberty.
“He has really elevated his game for us, and he ”
Snyder began his career playing for Triboro when he is father, Chaz, was the head coach. It was the beginning of a time for growth and a time to relish his family.
“I played there (Triboro) until I was 12 and I really grew the love for soccer more than anything at this age and it was all I did,” gushed Snyder. “It really helped seeing my older sister who had a big influence on my actions constantly playing the game as well.
“I decided to move on and play travel soccer with LVU for a few years where I even got to win a state championship.”
Snyder’s success continued his climb with a club team into his high school years
“I began to really take this sport serious, and I moved on to play the highest level of soccer once I got into high school which is through the MLS,” noted Snyder. “I played for FC Delco, traveling down to the Philly area every week night doing what I love. There at Delco, I even won a national championship.”
This season, Snyder decided to take his talents to the Kids’ program, and it has been a perfect match.
“This past year I decided I wanted to play with all my friends for the high school and take a different route. Luckily, my dad who has been by my side through all my decisions, completely supported this and I came out for the team with my buddies.
“Although I didn’t get to play with the underclass men yet, even after the first session we stuck together like we’ve been playing all our life.”
Snyder plans to do what he can to bring the Kids a deep postseason run.
“My goal is to continue to carry on the legacy of Northampton soccer,” stressed Snyder. “I am grateful to coach Bastidas for having faith in me and naming me a captain. I want to get onto the EPC First team and hopefully even further like all-region, or all-state.
“I have unbelievably supportive and skilled teammates that I know will help me through this and I want to help bring these boys further than anything in Northampton history, going to and winning states.”
