Florine Joy Copley Burkhard, 88, of Lower Macungie Township, the daughter of the late Florence Boyer and Francis Copley, died peacefully in her home Oct. 16, 2025. She was born in Mount Pleasant and after several moves, the family settled in Claymont, Del.

She attended Notre Dame High School in Moylan, graduated in 1955 and entered Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from Fitzgerald in 1958.

She joined the Air Force, where she met her husband, Edward J. Burkhard Jr., M.D., and they were married in 1963. They moved to Allentown in 1967.

The family became members of St. Thomas More Parish, Allentown, in 1967 where she was active in the church ministries in her early years.

She was also a member of the Lower Macungie Garden Club and sang in the Active Life Chorus.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Becky; sisters, Elizabeth Honnold; sister, Mary Jane Copley; sister-in-law, Trudy Copley.

She was predeceased by her brother, Bill Copley; two nephews, Bill Jr. and Jerome Copley.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. A calling hour will be held 10-11 a.m. before the service in the church.
