With the season behind them, Catasauqua’s cross country team can look forward to continue to build a foundation for the future.

“Overall, the season went pretty well,” beamed head coach Kyle Rusnock. “We were happy to see the growth and improvement through the season.”

At the recent District 11 meet, the Roughies had both boys’ and girls’ squads compete in the meet.

Running for the boys with their finishes and times were freshman Blake Reed, 67th, 20:25; junior Liam McGinley, 71st, 20:41; senior Nikoloz Kemashvili, 79th, 21:35; senior Evan Reed, 85th, 22:09; senior Jack Brubaker, 94th, 23:31; freshman Charlie Piervallo, 99th, 25:21; and freshman Bentley Weaver, 100th, 25:34.

On the girls’ side, there was junior Ana Rodriguez, 77th, 25:54; junior Uyen Ly, 83rd, 26:27; sophomore Shakala Roberts, 90th, 27:28’ and sophomore Kaylin Stewart, 98th, 27:59.

The Roughies will lose Evan Reed, Brubaker, and Kemashvili to graduation, and Rusnock was grateful to the trio for their leadership and guidance throughout the season.

“They have been awesome for us this year,” gushed Rusnock. “They did a great job of bringing in our younger runners and showing them the ropes.”

The boys’ unit will return Blake Reed, McGinley, Piervallo, Weaver, along with sophomore David Mercado, sophomore Dylan Reed, freshman Brody Luckenbill, junior Cassius Estronza, and junior Jeremiah Wedderburn.

The girls’ squad will return Roberts, Ly, Stewart, and also Ashley Giron Montano, and Anaiz Espinal. Janetliz Burgos in the lone graduate from this year’s team.

In spite of a relatively inexperienced team, Rusnock is confident the team can take another major step next season.

“The kids ran very well in the postseason,” stated Rusnock. “They surpassed our expectations, which is something to build on for next year.”
