FREEDOM HS NEWS By JESSICA MOONEY
Lively first months
Life at Freedom has been eventful and vibrant in the past couple months. As we are coming to the end of the first marking period, student life has been very peer focused and lively.
This past week, students participated in Spirit Week in turn for the annual Freedom-Liberty game. They dressed and showed up in their best attire each day this week, preparing for the big game that took place at BASD stadium this past Saturday afternoon. Every day was a different theme. Meme day, twin day and class color wars, were just a few examples of the fun spirit days that students at Freedom took part in.
Wednesday was the traditional bonfire held in back of the school. Students, primarily new members of the National Honor Society, set up numerous wood pallets as a part of their service project. It was an amazing October night with perfect weather for a bonfire. Each year, this bonfire allows athletes who are a part of fall sports to highlight their teams, all while supporting one another and the Freedom family.
On Thursday evening, students stayed past school hours for the hallway decorating contest that takes place every year at Freedom the day before the rivalry game. The contest includes all four classes and the band, when all students from Freedom are dedicated to decorating different parts of Freedom. This is an important tradition as this brings together everyone at Freedom.
Friday morning, students were bombarded with Pixar, Star Wars, Alice in Wonderland, Bikini Bottom, and Mario-themed hallways. Everyone took their turns looking at the amazingly creative posters and decorations that students spent an extraordinary amount of time on.
Later, in the afternoon was the pep rally. All grade levels were involved in competing with one another, and this is where the winner of the hallway decorating contest is announced: seniors, first; juniors, second; band, third; freshmen, fourth; and sophomores, fifth.
School spirit is very important to students here at Freedom. It enables students to showcase their individuality, while collectively rooting for the Freedom Patriots. On Saturday afternoon, Freedom fell short to our rival, Liberty. This was a tough loss for us, as we have held the streak of being the BASD champs for the past couple of years. Although we lost, our football team will continue to keep their heads held high.
As for the students who stand in the riot squad every Friday night in the fall, we will continue to support not only our football team, but every team and student at Freedom. As our moto states, “Excellence in All Things.” We, the Freedom Family, exhibit this very well. When we lose, we lose with dignity. When we win, we win with dignity.
Being a Freedom Patriot is more than just academics, it’s rewarding in the fact that we all demonstrate school spirit while honoring one another at the same time.
