Volunteer Opportunities

Assist with literacy activities in pre-K through third grade by providing individual or small-group support under the guidance of classroom teachers with the Allentown School District Foundation. Minimum age 18. Clearances and attendance at a one hour orientation are required. Hours and days are flexible, but volunteers must be willing to commit to a regular schedule of at least one hour per week. Flint Hill Farm Educational Center needs daily help with cleaning stalls for horses, cows, sheep and goats. Choose your animal so you will get to know them, and they will get to know you! Flexible scheduling. Training is provided. Modifications can be made for most of the projects to accommodate individual needs. Minimum age 14 with adult. Looking for a meaningful way to give back this season? Join The Salvation Army, Allentown, in making a difference in the community through a variety of seasonal volunteer opportunities including signing up families for Christmas assistance, sorting coats and clothing for distribution and more. Autumn is in full swing at Lehigh Valley Zoo, Schnecksville. Individual or group volunteers are needed to help guests enjoy the sunshine and create family memories with special events like Boo At The Zoo the last weekend of October. Minimum age 15. Tour guides/docents are needed to greet and provide visitors with an educational experience about Native American lifeways and history as it pertains to the exhibits at Museum of Indian Culture, Allentown. Tour guides are currently needed Fridays for at least one 6-hour shift (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) per week for a minimum of three consecutive months. Minimum age 16. Sights for Hope volunteers assist visually impaired clients every Wednesday during the weekly walk at the South Mall 9-10:30 a.m. This weekly walk gives clients the opportunity to enhance their fitness and socialize with other clients and volunteers. All volunteers will be trained in sighted guide procedures. All volunteers must use their own transportation to get to the mall. Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity that will make a difference in the lives of cats and dogs? Join the events team for The Sanctuary at Haafsville, Breinigsville, where you can share your ideas and match your interests and abilities to tasks that may also be done from home. Itty Bitty Kitty, Allentown, needs volunteers to help clean and maintain the shelter weekday mornings (any time before 11 a.m.) and select evenings (any time after 5 p.m.) Each shift includes feeding and giving fresh water, scooping litter boxes, washing dishes, sweeping the floor and playing with the cats.
