Parkland School District reviews goals

As the 2025-2026 school term began, administrators reviewed district goals at the Sept. 16 board workshop session.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chorones began the program with comments on security.

“We want to strengthen security within the district,” Chorones said.

He reported door locks have been updated, a visitor management system is underway and a school resource officer has been obtained for the elementary schools in North Whitehall Township.

“We want to evaluate and revise safety and efficiency to transport 10,000 students and enhance mental and emotional support for students,” Chorones said.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michelle Minotti noted the district is working to strengthen the support system for teachers.

She said goals include work on the constructive use of AI and a leadership development program.

She reported individualized data is used to identify areas where students need help with academics and behavior.

Chorones highlighted the capital action plan to upgrade facilities throughout the district.

Projects already undertaken are the bus loop redesign at Fogelsville Elementary School, drainage improvements at Kernsville Elementary School and roof replacements at various buildings.

Turning to curriculum, Chorones observed everyone in the district is involved in the process of cyclical examination of textbooks and other materials for change or updating.

“Goals don’t just go on the shelf; we get feedback from administrators. This is an ongoing process,” Superintendent Dr. Mark Madson said.

As the presentation concluded, board President Rob Cohen asked, “How do we prepare our teachers and administrative staff to tackle these wonderful goals?”

“We are able to disseminate these goals through the district. We are very open with our staff. We’re all going in the same direction,” Chorones said.

“Our leadership is constantly looking over its shoulder to make sure staff are following them,” Cohen said.
