To the Editor:
I’m writing to encourage Lower Macungie voters to support three candidates for township commissioner representing steady, proven leadership.
Lower Macungie has become a regional model for good governance, preservation and transparency.
Incumbents Brian Higgins and Brian Shoemaker have a strong record protecting open space while managing growth responsibly and keeping taxes low. Wes Barrett, current chair of the planning commission with years of local government experience, is uniquely qualified to fill the vacancy created by Commissioner Rich Ward’s retirement.
Highlights include: Major wins in farmland and open space preservation, limiting floodplain development and removing warehouses from the zoning code in 2017.
In 2025 alone, nearly 300 acres were permanently preserved, including a 45-acre tract at Mill Creek and Lower Macungie Roads that would have otherwise been 180 apartments. The township continues expanding trails and greenways, strengthening transparency and upholding its reputation for sound, accountable government.
Their leadership reflects the steady, community-focused approach that keeps Lower Macungie moving in the right direction. Please consider supporting ‘Two Brians and Wes’ for Lower Macungie Township Commissioner.
