EPL hosts Halloween and fall fun

The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Stop by 218 Main St. for a visit and experience the beautiful displays which depict a glimpse of past community life. The historical society’s newest exhibit highlights the Emaus/Emmaus High School football team dating back to 1900.

The society’s museum committee appreciates all donations of memorabilia that came from, was used in or enjoyed by those in Emaus/Emmaus. Call the office at 610-966-6591 to inquire before you would consider discarding vintage holiday decorations.

The Emmaus Historical Society is a great organization for those in the community interested in learning about and preserving the history of Emmaus. The Emmaus Public Library kicks off its Halloween celebrations 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 with a trick-or-treat event. Children are encouraged to come in costume to get treats. The fun continues all day each day for the entire week of Oct. 27-31. There will also be the opportunity for children to participate in a scavenger hunt and earn prizes. Scavenger hunt sheets are available at the front desk, prompting participants to search around the library for all six ghosts.

Community members can also attend the Emmaus Public Library 1 p.m. Oct. 25 for the showing of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The event is free and light refreshments will be provided.

The Borough of Emmaus will honor trick or treat 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31. The following day, the borough will recognize Household Hazardous Waste Day 8 a.m. Nov. 1. The location has not been finalized, but can be found by visiting https://www.emmauspa.gov.

Also on that Saturday, the Emmaus Public Library will host its monthly Block Party where children are able to engage in a creative play event in the children’s wing with all of the blocks the library has to offer. The event lasts for one hour and will begin 11 a.m.

In the early days of November, the Emmaus Public Library will host a few events which require preregistration at https://emmauspl.org/calendar.

On Nov. 3, all supplies will be provided for participants to make a leaf jar candle holder during the Pinterest Party event 6 p.m. On Nov. 4, get to know your sewing machine at the sewing machine fun workshop. This monthly workshop will also teach attendees fourth grade and up, how use a rotary cutter, the basics of machine sewing and how to make a quilted place mat, drawstring bag or tote. Two people are able to attend the two hour session, so register early.

Miss Sue will provide a nonfiction story time to second, third and fourth grade students Nov. 7. The day’s topic will be dinosaurs and participants should once again register for the event.

On Nov. 8, the Emmaus Environmental Advisory Council is hosting a bulb swap 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For the bulbs you intend to swap, it is encouraged to bring photos of what the flowers will look like. At noon Nov. 10, there will be an electronics recycling event located at the maintenance garage on Klines Lane.

Also on Nov. 10, Jeffrey Baker, retired RN and American Heart Association CPR instructor, will teach the skills of CPR at the Emmaus Public Library 6-7:30 p.m. He will cover adult, child and infant CPR, as well as choking relief and how to use an AED. Please note this is not a CPR certification course; however, registration is necessary and opens Oct. 20. Visit https://emmauspl.org to register.

The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Nov. 6 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. Dues will be collected. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284. The next meeting will be Dec. 4.

In honor of Veterans Day, the borough offices will be closed Nov. 11.

The Emmaus Rotary Club will host its community membership event at Yergey Brewing, 235 Main St., Emmaus, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 13. Bring a friend and attend to learn what the Rotary Club is all about, how you can get involved and celebrate 100 years as the largest service organization in the East Penn region.

The Emmaus Public Library Board will host its monthly meeting 4 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Emmaus Library, 11 E. Main St.

The Emmaus Historical Society will host its next program and membership meeting Nov. 19 titled “The Story of the First Pennsylvania German Thanksgiving” and will be presented by Jason Searock. While thoughts of Thanksgiving typically bring about the classic story with Pilgrims and Indians, not many of us are familiar with the one that actually centers around the American Indian and the Pennsylvania German. The latter is “our” first Thanksgiving in America. Programs are free and members and nonmembers are welcome to attend.

The borough offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.
