Board gets community center, contest update

Weisenberg Township Supervisor’s held a brief meeting in the boardroom, Oct. 13.

Chairperson Linda Gorgas began the meeting by announcing the board held an executive session before the board meeting to discuss personnel matters.

The board under new business approved the 2025-26 joint salt bid from Eastern Salt Company.

Gorgas said Weisenberg’s portion is 600 ton at a cost of $83.50 per ton.

Also discussed under new business was the West Hills Court insurance claim release.

Brian Carl, township manager, began the discussion.

“So we had two accidents on West Hills Court. One was back in June and the other one was about a month ago,” Carl explained. “So for the first one we finally got the release of the claim and they’re ready to pay us.”

He said the accident took out a bunch of guide rail, the road got messed up and one of the township’s signs was run over.

“Our total claim was $18,850.90,” Carl said. “We did have the guide rail fixed. We did not fix the road.”

He said the second accident destroyed all the guide rail the township just fixed, so that’ll be for a separate claim in the future.

After further discussion, the board approved to accept the West Hills Court insurance claim release.

Under the Community Center Advisory Committee monthly report, Carl said the committee didn’t have a meeting recently, but the logo design contest for the new community center is still going on until Oct. 31.

“We actually received our first entry today. I’m putting them up on WhatsApp otherwise I’m printing them off,” he said.

Carl also provided an update on the construction of the community center during his township manager’s report.

He said the contractor is chugging along with at least the ground portion of the building and they were going to set roof trusses on Oct. 14 but that might be delayed a little bit.

“Payment number three is for $186,023. That would be the office and gym portion,” Carl said. “The red portion would be the turf area, so it essentially will double in size, but they wanted to focus on the ground portion first. As soon as they get that up we have stone pad forms so they can pour concrete. That should be in the next month or so.”

Tony Werley, township roadmaster, has got all the pipes to do some stormwater piping in the back of the building and wrapping it around, he said.

“We will try to get the seepage pits and stuff in for down spouts this fall before the weather hits,” Carl said.

After further discussion the board approved payment number three for the community center.
