Borough fire department to hold coin toss Nov. 28

At its Oct. 14 meeting, Coplay Borough Council approved a number of community events and fundraisers.
A coin toss to benefit the borough fire department will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 28 at the intersection of Second and Chestnut streets.
Council approved the use of the gym in borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St., by Coplay Sports. The group will be on the basketball court 5-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays.
Looking ahead to the Christmas season, Explorer Post 101 was granted approval to hold its holiday open house, and its annual train display, Dec. 19-Jan. 4, 2026. Hours are 7-9 p.m. Fridays and noon-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
In other business, council approved a coal bid by Hobel’s Coal for the 2025-26 season. One hundred tons of rice coal, at a cost of $290 per ton, will be used to heat the municipal building and the Bridge Street public works building.
Council also approved Charles Herman’s bid — in the amount of $212,290.50 — for the Community Development Block Grant 11th Street renovation project. Roadwork in the area has altered the project, as UGI is making repairs, per a February ordinance. The renovation project will now focus on Chestnut to Eighth streets and Maple to Chestnut.
A donation of $500 each to Coplay Sports and Coplay Borough Recreation and Welfare Association were approved by council.
James Hahn was approved to be reappointed as the borough liaison for Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority.
During an informal discussion at the meeting, council was informed Keith Sodl was planning to paint stars on the pump house in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. There is no cost to the borough.
Council will meet for a workshop Nov. 4 and a regular meeting Nov. 11, both 7 p.m., at borough hall.
