George O. West Jr.

First Presbyterian Church member

George O. West Jr., 91, died May 13, 2025, at home. He was the husband of the late Ruth Ann (Bray) West for 62 years.

Born in East Bangor, he was a son of the late George O. and Anna (Weaver) West.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean conflict, spending 14 months in Japan. He received his honorable discharge Feb. 22, 1956, with the rank of sergeant.

He was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Insurance Company in Allentown for six years before having his own agency with Nationwide Insurance Company for 31 years in Hokendauqua. He retired in 1997. Since his retirement, he worked at Strawberry Acres Orchards during the fruit picking season.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua, having served as an elder and trustee including chairman of the pulpit nominating committee and co-chair of the sanctuary renovation committee.

He was a member of National Association of Life Underwriters for more than 30 years and served as president and board member of Lehigh Valley Association of Life Underwriters. He was a member of American Legion Jones Quigg Post 739 of Hokendauqua since 1970.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon West (Reamer) and Donna White and her husband Bernie; a grandson, Gregory Reamer; two sisters, Joyce Ott and Pauline Bickford; nieces; nephews; and extended family.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Horton and Shirley LaBarre.

Services were private.

Arrangements were made by Gilbert Funeral Home Inc., Whitehall.
