Truck traffic reduced according to police chief
Alburtis Borough Council met Oct. 8 to discuss a range of municipal matters, from public safety to infrastructure updates. The meeting, held at borough hall and presided over by Council President Ron DeIaco, began with the Pledge of Allegiance before moving into public comment and administrative approvals. Council unanimously approved the minutes from the Sept. 24 meeting, as well as the bills presented for payment.
Mayor Kathleen Palmer was not in attendance to provide a report.
Police Chief Tony Alsleben was in attendance to answer any questions about the department’s report. The chief said he’s seen a reduction in truck traffic due to the extension on Sauerkraut Lane.
The treasurer’s report indicated the borough’s financials remain stable, with expenditures in line with budget expectations.
The borough engineer’s report also provided updates on ongoing infrastructure projects, while reports from the Macungie Ambulance Corps and the Lower Macungie Fire Department’s third quarter summary highlighted continued cooperation among regional emergency services.
Under new business, council reviewed and voted on Ordinance 600, which establishes a new handicapped parking space in the 300 block of Moty Drive. The ordinance also sets the fee for police accident reports at $15 and amends the borough’s codified ordinances to include fire code officials under the duties of UCC and property maintenance code officials. Council approved the ordinance after a brief discussion.
Council also reviewed quotes for an air release valve installation, ultimately approving the request to move forward with the project to improve water system efficiency.
In other matters, members approved additional road closures requested by the Alburtis Area Community Center for the upcoming Halloween parade, emphasizing support for community engagement and safety during the event.
Before adjourning, council accepted the resignation of a member of the borough’s planning commission, expressing gratitude for their service and noting efforts will begin soon to fill the vacancy.
The meeting concluded with no further public comment. The next Alburtis Borough Council meeting will take place 7 p.m. Oct. 29.
