LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

PHS up next for Zephs

Entering their game with Allen last Friday night, Whitehall was concerned about looking ahead to their showdown with Parkland the following Friday. The Canaries had lost four-straight games heading into the contest.

It didn’t take Whitehall long to realize they were focused on the game at hand.

The Zephyrs marched out to a 42-0 halftime lead, and they rolled to a 48-8 victory.

Whitehall (7-1), winners of six-straight, host undefeated Parkland (8-0) Friday night. The Trojans are ranked in the top-five in several state Class 6A polls.

Against Allen, quarterback Tanner Dogmanits hit brother wide receiver Talon Dogmanits with two first half touchdowns. One of their scores was a 91-yarder in the second quarter.

Tanner, who completed eight of 15 passes for 137 yards, was also aware of how the Zephyrs recorded 19 second-half points and held off one-win Dieruff, 39-20, earlier this season.

He also is aware of Parkland’s stingy defense that has allowed just 66 points in eight games.

“Last time we played at Allentown’s field, we let Dieruff stay with us, so we knew we had to take care of business early,” said Dogmanits. “Parkland is a good team with a lot of success right now, so we are going to make sure we practice with a different mindset this week because they are also at the top of our division.”

His brother also had remnants of the Dieruff game.

“We knew that we couldn’t look ahead of them because last time that happened we were in a game with Dieruff,” said Talon. “Our coaches told us during the week that its going to be a challenge no matter who we are going against and never to take anyone lightly.”

The older Dogmanits knows he and his teammates will need to be focused for Friday.

“Parkland is a really good team,” beamed Dogmanits. “They are undefeated and we only have one loss. It should be a good game. I think if we are locked in all week at practice and play all four quarters of each game, then we can beat anyone.”

Head coach Andy Marino also is well aware that his team has to maintain a concerted effort.

“We wanted to start fast and play consistent football,” stressed Marino. “Parkland is an excellent program and ranked team in the state. We are looking forward to playing them.”

ZEPHYR ZEALOTS: Justin Hussett led the Zephyrs in rushing against Allen with 72 yards and Jeziah Gregory had 65. Gregory leads the team in rushing with 862 yards with 17 touchdowns, while Hussett has 256 yards with three scores ... Tanner Dogmanits has thrown for 1,632 yards with 18 touchdowns and four interceptions, and Talon Dogmanits has 35 receptions for 762 yards with 11 TDs. He also has averaged 31.10 yards on kickoff returns ... Braiyden Delvalle has a team-high 37 tackles and Nolan Hudak has 28 stops ... Ben Pychinka has a 35-yard pick six and he leads the team with three picks ... Benjamin Gil has four sacks ... Parkland won last year’s battle, 31-7, and the Trojans have won four of the last five meetings, Whitehall’s last win was 32-31 in 2023. The Trojans are coming off a 37-7 rout of Allentown Central Catholic ... Finn Coen has thrown for 867 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions for the Trojans. T.J. Lawrence has rushed for 628 yards. Blake Nassery has caught 20 passes for 330 yards with five touchdowns.

PREDICTION (season record 5-2): There should be a playoff atmosphere off Mechanicsville Road for what could be one of the better games of the season ... Zephyrs have diversified their offense and Tanner Dogmanits is having an all-state year. Whitehall has averaged 48 points in their six-straight victories ... After a slow start, Parkland has averaged 44 points per game over their last six. With two explosive offenses, this will come down to the Zephyrs trying to slow Parkland ... Tough call here, but Zephyrs being at home helps, and there is something with this team being pretty well-rounded. Time for a SMP cheesesteak from the Dogmanits’ brothers ... ZEPHYRS, 28-26.
