Lavenburg helps to pace boys team
Blake Lavenburg is enjoying the moments.
The Northampton sophomore played a role in the Konkrete Kids’ run to the district final game in which they just fell short to Parkland last season.
This season, Lavenburg is ready to help his team take the next step.
“My most memorable soccer moment has to be districts last year,” reflected Lavenburg. “It was such a great experience with the comeback late in the game and watching the boys go out there and give it their all.
“This year I came into the season ready to win. Coming off of a finals’ loss last season made me and the team want to win this season even more. I feel like last year’s finish has had a rather good impact on the team, especially for the seniors that want to excel again this year and win.”
Lavenburg also planed to increase his role.
“I see my role as a team player who helps distribute the ball between the midfield whilst helping both the defensive and offensive aspects of the game.”
Lavenburg believes a tight team chemistry again can make a difference.
“The team is really like a family, I have known most of the guys before high school, if it were playing club with them or through connections of my brother,” he added. “The communication levels and the chemistry is truly amazing and I wouldn’t want to have it with anyone else. The younger players have also stepped up and filled in where they needed too.”
Head coach Chris Bastidas has appreciated Lavenburg’s steady work ethic.
“He’s a very hard worker who puts himself in great spots to make big time plays for the team,” said Bastidas. “He has been finishing the ball well so far, and the more attacking threats we have, the easier it is for everyone. He does not over complicate the game, which gives his teammates and himself more opportunities for goals. He is only a sophomore and he keeps getting better each game.”
Lavenburg’s career began his career under the guidance of his father, Ryan, and brother, Ryan, who played for the Kids from 2019-23.
“I started playing soccer when I was three years old at Moore Township. I started because my older brother also played. The biggest influence in my career is my dad because he has been coaching me for most of it and taught me mostly everything I have learned up until high school.”
Lavenburg is unsure of what his future holds, but he is leaning toward a business career. Aside from soccer, he is the president of the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) club and a DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) officer.
“This year has been great so far with us winning some tough games,” said Lavenburg earlier this seaosn. “We still have to work on capitalizing our scoring opportunities. But other than that, it has been great.”
The Kids began the EPC playoffs this week and will also take part in districts next week.
