Celebrating Hispanic culture

The Freedom HS Spanish Club hosted its inaugural Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on the evening of Oct. 3 in the school lobby and auditorium, featuring ethnic food, music, cultural dress and displays, children’s coloring and a raffle. Over 100 students, their families, school staff and community members attended.

Spanish Club faculty adviser Carmen Cespedes says it’s an event that they would like to do every year to celebrate Hispanic culture and contributions to the community.

Students dressed in bright Caribbean costumes danced and served up Spanish culinary treats to attendees, some prepared by students and their parents, and others donated by local business Aqui Es - A Taste of Mexico.

A raffle gave contributors a chance to win Spanish Club T-shirts.

The evening’s festivities culminated with a concert by Hector Acosta y la Orquesta Hache in the school auditorium.
