Zephyr Roundup: Cross country and field hockey

Last week, the boys and girls cross country teams competed twice and came away with some wins and season best/PR times.

Both the boys and girls defeated Northampton and lost to Nazareth and Easton on Tuesday at Allentown Central Catholic’s home meet. The boys and girls both won 25-33. The boys were led by Habib Leyos, AJ Marakovits, Daniel Tran, Derek Berg, and Gabe Unangst. The girls were led by Isabelle Daigle, Emma Druckenmiller, Holly Kotch, Janelle Kies, and Julia Elseify.

On Thursday, they competed at the supercompetitive Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. The boys finished 33rd out of 38 teams and the girls finished 27th out of 32 teams. These finishes are the best finishes our program has had at this invitational since we began going in 2023. Isabella Daigle, Emma Druckenmiller, Julia Elseify, and Gabe Unangst all PR’d at the meet.

The boys record after Tuesday now stands at 6-6, while the girls are 7-5. WHS ends the season on Tuesday at Emmaus and run against Parkland, Allen, Dieruff, Central, and Emmaus.

In soccer action, the Whitehall girls look to be safe for an EPC playoff berth. The EPC playoffs start this weekend.

The Zephs sit at 10-5 and as of early this week were sitting as a sixth seed, a half-game ahead of Freedom and a game ahead of Northampton.

The Kids take on the Zephs in the final game Wednesday, which comes after Press deadlines.

Pleasant Valley was 6-9 and in 9th place and seemingly on the outside looking in.

The Zephs, if holding on to the sixth seed, would face Emmaus if the top of the standings stayed the same.

Nazareth and Parkland were both 14-0-1 and at the top of the standings with Emmaus sitting at 14-1-0.
