Kids fall to Easton
Both quarterbacks in last Friday’s tilt between Northampton and Easton had record-setting performances. The Kids’ Gavin Taff broke Joe Kerbacher’s career mark for passing yards.
The Rovers’ Cole Ordway tied a school record with 6 rushing touchdowns in the game. Northampton had no answers for the Easton QB as he rushed for 332 yards on 24 carries to carry his team to a 48-28 win at Al Erdosy Stadium.
Taking a glass half full look at the contest, the undefeated Rovers had won their three EPC games by an aggregate score of 139-16. Northampton’s offense almost doubled the point output of Bethlehem Catholic, Emmaus, and Stroudsburg combined.
The K-Kids played much of the game only down a touchdown. It was 14-7 after one quarter. 21-14 after Northampton scored on the opening drive of the second half. 28-20 after 3 quarters.
“We didn’t play the zone read very well. We knew it was coming, but we just have to get better on the edges. We’re not very good on that right now. We changed a little bit up, kids were in position, but didn’t make plays,” lamented head coach John Toman.
Toman continued, “We’re going to watch the film. You’re never as bad as you think you are. You’re never as good as you think you are. We’re still scoring points, which is good. It wasn’t like it was 40 to nothing. It was 28-20 at one point. We just have to go back and get better. We have three winnable games down the stretch.”
Sophomore running back Chase Kessler continues to impress. He rushed for 148 yards and scored on a 45-yard scamper in the second half. Despite being listed at a mere 145 pounds, he runs hard between the tackles and has a burst to be able to pick up big chunks of yardage.
Taff broke Kerbacher’s record midway through the fourth quarter on a 20-yard completion to Keegan Hackett. He finished that drive off with a 20-yard touchdown toss to Rocco Amato. Taff hooked up with Jeremiah Strowder for an 18-yard TD in the first quarter.
Zander Rickert was the Kids’ other touchdown maker as he capped off a 60-yard Kids’ drive late in the third quarter with a run from four yards out.
Amato paced the defense with 9 total tackles. Chase Czarnecki added 8 stops.
