Harriers set sights on postseason

With the regular season winding down, Catasauqua head cross country Kyle Rusnock has been pleased with his harriers’ progress.

The Rough Riders conclude the regular season with a meet at Northwestern Tuesday.

“We have been running well,” said Rusnock. “We had a recent meet at Wilson where all of our runners hit their personal best.”

In the Wilson meet, Blake Reed ran in 17:52, and Evan Reed clocked 19:00. Shakala Roberts crossed in 23:50, and Kaylin Stewart finished in 27:28.

During one of their final meets at Palmerton, Blake Reed was in at 20:44, Liam McGinley finished at 21:31, and Evan Reed closed at 21:43. Stewart finished at 32:48, Janetliz Burgos was at 38:08, and Anaiz Espinal was at 39:03.

Rusnock has been happy with the progress of his boys’ unit.

“Blake (Reed) and Evan (Reed) have been leading the pack on the boys’ side,” boasted Rusnock. “It was great to have Liam McGinley and Nick Kemashvili run with us as well. They were both in our top four at Palmerton.”

Rusnock also cited the performances of Bentley Weaver, Charlie Piervalo, Jack Brubaker, David Mercado, Cassius Estronza, Brody Luckenbill and Jeremiah Wedderburn.

“Bentley Weaver, Charlie Piervalo, and Jack Brubaker have been rounding our top finishers,” said Rusnock. “Dylan Reed, David Mercado, Cassius Estronza, Brody Luckenbill, and Jeremiah Wedderburn have been putting in the time and improving all the time.”

On the girls’ side, Rusnock has looked to Robert and Stewart to pace the unit.

“The girls also have been doing well and improving,” stressed Rusnock. “Shakala Roberts and Kaylin Stewart have been leading the pack the past couple of weeks.

Janetliz Burgos Anaiz Espinal, and Ashley Giron Montano also have been ding great and are enjoying competing.”

Rusnock also is optimistic that his team can have a positive showing at the upcoming league and district meets.

“These kids just keep working,” said Rusnock. “Coach Gerhard and I are happy with their progress.”
