Yakaitis ties for fourth at CL Tourney

Four Salisbury golfers qualified for Monday’s Colonial League Championships at Bethlehem Municipal with Chase Yakaitis leading the way for the Falcons.

Yakaitis got off to a hot start with a birdie on the first hole and another on the seventh. He also made three pars and four bogeys on the front nine to take the turn at 2-over par 38.

After starting the back nine with three straight bogeys, the Falcon freshman made five pars and one bogey over his final six holes to finish in a tie for fourth place at 6-over par (77).

Yakaitis played steady golf, avoiding big numbers with nothing higher than bogey on his card. With his top-five finish, Yakaitis is exempt from Monday’s District 11 qualifier and will advance to the Sept. 29 district championship tournament at Steel Club.

Salisbury junior Jackson Skeans shot 93 for 34th place in a field of 54 boys players at Monday’s league tournament. Junior Markus Jones (99, 48th place) and senior Aidan Smarch (100, 49th place) also competed in the event.

Saucon Valley’s Anthony Albano won the tournament in a playoff over Landon Romanczuk of Bangor. They both shot 4-over par 75.

Southern Lehigh’s Lexi Miller knocked off defending girls champ Mara Dubacher (Moravian Academy). Miller’s 7-over par 78 was one stroke better than Dubacher’s 79 for second place.
