LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

SL beats Northwestern field hockey, 2-1

In some sports there are games that you look for immediately when the schedule is released.

For Northwestern Lehigh field hockey, one of those games is against Southern Lehigh.

The teams only play each other once during the regular season because they are in different divisions in the Colonial League.

Their one regular season meeting came up this past week and was set for Southern Lehigh (7-0-0 Colonial, 7-1-0 overall) High School.

The meeting was the usual battle between two of the stronger Colonial League programs, a tightly contested, one-goal game that Southern Lehigh won 2-1 to reserve bragging rights and potentially break a tiebreaker once the league playoffs come around.

A one-goal loss to Southern Lehigh is a sign for the Tigers (6-2-0, 6-2-0) that they are playing well but have more to work on for the rest of the season.

Hannah Gober notched the only goal on the day for Northwestern Lehigh and goalie Ryan Smolinsky was awarded five saves, taking her second loss of the season.

Before their meeting with Southern, Northwestern had a pair of wins last week, downing Palisades 7-0 and then beating Saucon Valley 4-1. Game statistics from the two wins were not available.

Gober notched her 100th point in the win over Saucon Valley, and scored a pair of goals in the win over Palisades. Other goal scorers against Palisades were McKensey Miller, who also scored twice, and teammates Nora Peterson, Evelyn Alboucq and Ella Bressi. Taylor Lagowy had two assists.
