Santos scores three TDs in win

The Emmaus football team got in the win column with a 41-14 victory over Reading last Friday night.

The Hornets (1-2) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter then extended it to 35-6 by halftime en route to their first win of the 2025 season.

Jay Santos got Emmaus on the board with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

After quarterback Jerek Cooper broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run, Reading made it 14-6 with a 19-yard touchdown pass before Emmaus scored four unanswered touchdowns.

Santos ran for scores of 15 yards and one yard to make it 28-6. Nick Guzzo caught a 9-yard pass from Cooper late in the second quarter to extend the lead.

Robert Edwards ran for a 3-yard score in the third quarter to make it a mercy-rule win. The host Knights got into the end zone in the fourth quarter and made the two-point conversion to cap the scoring.

Cooper led the Hornets with 135 rushing yards on six carries, while Santos ran the ball 17 times for 77 yards. Cooper completed three of his six passes for 24 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Edwards led Emmaus with six tackles, including two for loss. Legend Vasquez had four tackles.

The Hornet defense held the Knights to 146 yards (90 rushing, 56 passing), while Emmaus accumulated 314 total yards (290 rushing). Reading converted only three of 10 third downs in the loss.

The Hornets will look to make it two in a row when they host Stroudsburg Friday night.
