Salisbury is one of two unbeaten teams in D-11
Here’s where it gets interesting.
After beating Northwestern Lehigh in the season opener, Salisbury’s field hockey team really hasn’t been tested very much.
In their last seven games, the Falcons have outscored opponents 53-6. Now though, the team veers off of the finely paved roads of the schedule and goes into some rougher terrain.
Palisades is 5-3 and will be the next opponent for the undefeated Salisbury team. Four days later, the Falcons meet up against Colonial League powerhouse Southern Lehigh, which has just one loss on the season and it came in a nonleague game against Parkland (7-3).
Squeezed between those two games is one of those so called trap games where teams can be looking ahead and forget about the competition directly in front of them. That game will be against Saucon Valley (3-5), a team that is capable of taking advantage of a team that overlooks them.
As for their most recent wins, the Falcons downed Pen Argyl 8-1 on Monday with Kendra Morgan, Gwyn DeFazio and Sarah Beckage all scoring twice in the win. Anna Grubb and Ellie Schneider also added goals in the winning cause.
In the past week, Salisbury also downed Liberty 8-2 in a nonleague test and beat Moravian Academy 7-0.
DeFazio, a senior, seems to be scoring at will. The Kutztown recruit scored seven goals over the past week to go with four assists. Morgan, also a senior, scored five goals in the past week for Salisbury.
While the two seniors have been leading the scoring run for Salisbury, Beckage, who is also a senior, has been chipping in along the way.
In addition to her goal in the win over Pen Argyl, Schneider, a junior, notched goals in the two other wins for Salisbury and the sophomore class was well represented with Grubb totaling three goals and Ella Morgans adding two in the past week.
At 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the Colonial League, Salisbury is one of just two remaining undefeated field hockey teams in District 11, with Emmaus (9-0) being the other.
