Rapp, Benner finish top 10 at EPC Golf Tournament

The Parkland golf team competed in Monday’s East Penn Conference Championships at Great Bear Golf Course in Stroudsburg.

Jacob Rapp and Landen Benner led Parkland at the event.

Rapp, a sophomore, and Benner, a senior, shot 7-over par 79 to tie for seventh place.

Parkland senior Andrew Sundstrom shot 82 Monday to finish in a tie for 13h place. Senior Gabe Chase carded an 84 to tie for 21st place. Freshman Matthew Torres carded an 86 in the league tournament, while senior John Gerancher shot 90 and freshman Ryan Posocco shot 95. Junior Charlie Gold carded a 98 Monday.

Parkland went 13-2 in the EPC regular season to finish in a three-way tie with Emmaus and Pocono Mountain East for second place behind unbeaten Nazareth.

The Trojans finished fifth at the league tournament behind Nazareth, PME, Emmaus and Northampton.

The Blue Eagles dominated the EPC boys tournament with Dane Mohap and teammate Brady Rohn both shooting 1-over par 73 before Mohap earned the title in a playoff. Nazareth’s Holden Sparks finished third at 74 to make it a 1-2-3 finish for the Eagles, which also had four of the top five finishers in the boys tournament. Nazareth’s Alex DiGiacinto finished fifth behind Northampton’s Derek Moyer in fourth place.

In the girls tournament, Emmaus senior Alexis Teichman shot 86 for first place with Freedom’s Audrina Montesano carding a 91 for second place.

All boys players who had a low enough season average will compete in next week’s District 11 qualifying tournament at Northampton Country Club. The top five finishers from league tournaments are exempt from qualifying, along with any returning state qualifiers from last season.

The District Championships will be held a Tuesday, Sept. 30 at The Steel Club.
