PHS boys soccer starts season 2-0

The Parkland High School boys soccer team is the defending District 11 champions and were the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference runners-up all last season. The Trojans began 2025 like they are ready to repeat a lot of that success as they won both of their matches in the first week, each a conference game.

In the home and season opener last Tuesday night, Aug. 26, Parkland defeated Freedom 2-0 and then followed that two days later with a 1-0 victory over Easton on the road.

In the victory over the Patriots, Parkland scored both of its goals in the first half, coming from both Ethan Frey and Anthony Bautista. Alex Hurwitz had an assist. The Trojans had an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, but were behind in the corner kick category, 5-4. Andrew Staples finished with four saves in net.

In the win against the Red Rovers, after a scoreless first half, Talmage Pollard found the back of the net on an assist by Lincoln Fritz, which proved to be the game-winning goal in regulation. Staples and the Trojans defense once again came up with a shutout.

Parkland, which is 2-0 overall and in the conference, hosted East Stroudsburg South Wednesday night and is at Stroudsburg Saturday morning in EPC action. The Trojans then welcome Pleasant Valley to town Monday night. They are one of just seven teams in the conference to be undefeated to date.
