NWL golfers suffer first loss

After a 7-0 start, the Northwestern Lehigh golf team suffered its first set back of the season last week. The Tigers entered this week at 7-1 with three matches remaining in the regular season.

Palmerton handed Northwestern its first loss last week, 419-427 at Olde Homestead. Cole Dynda and Jacob Kozlowski shot 82 in the match to lead the Tigers. Skylar Kern (84), Mason Malosh (87) and Gracie Scheffler (92) made up the remainder of Northwestern’s team score.

Palmerton’s Jared Grammes fired the low round in the match, carding a 70 to lead his team to the win.

Kern had the Tigers’ low round with a 78 in an Aug. 25 win over Lehighton, 438-538 at Jack Frost National. Dynda (86), Avri Chandler (88), Kozlowski (88) and Scheffler (98) made up the team score against the Indians. Mikey D’Amico’s 2-over par 74 for the Tribe was the low round of the match.

Dynda shot a 1-under par 71 to lead the Tigers to a 423-451 win over Bangor on Aug. 20.

Malosh (79), Chandler (87), Scheffler (93) and Kern (93) accounted for the other four scores in the team total. Dynda was the medalist in the match as Bangor’s Beau Thomas led his team with a 73.

Northwestern finishes the season with matches against the top three teams in the Colonial League in Notre Dame (Green Pond), Southern Lehigh and Moravian Academy before taking part in the league championships tournament at Steel Club on Sept. 15.
