NWL clinches girls soccer playoff spot

With wins in their first nine games, Northwestern Lehigh became the first team in District 11 girls soccer team to earn a spot in districts.

Since then, Blue Mountain (6-1-0) also clinched a spot from the 3A classification. Northwestern is in the 2A class.

The Lady Tigers would like to extend their 37-0-0 streak going back to the beginning of the 2024 season, and they also have their sites set on being the top seed in both the Colonial League and District 11 playoffs.

Another state championship is also a goal for this team.

After shutting out Palisades (4-1-1 Colonial, 6-1-1 overall) last week, Northwestern took a ride to Bangor the next day and beat the Slaters (5-1-0, 8-1-0) in a 7-1 game.

The team welcomed Southern Lehigh to Tiger Stadium last Saturday and added a 4-0 win to their 2025 resume.

So far, the lone goal given up to Bangor is the only goal that Northwestern has allowed this season. Goalie Olivia Reinhart has eight shutouts after recording 12 last season during the run to the state title.

Sophia Schaffer leads the team in both goals (19) and assists (13) this season and has developed into more of a complete player than she was in her freshman season. Juliet Snyder is putting up strong numbers and is a great compliment to Schaffer on the attack with her 11 goals and 6 assists. Kherington Yezik is just as comfortable working somewhat behind the scenes than being the one producing all of the goals and it shows in that she has eight goals and seven assists through the first nine games. Amelia Glassberg has helped out with 10 assists this season.

The defense actually does appear to be even better than last season with seniors Sophia Sikora and Marly DeLillo helping in front of Reinhart prevent goals. Junior Dylan Ritter has missed some time with an injury, but as good teams do, the Tigers have been able to find other players to step up until she can return.

Northwestern is enjoying a week off between games and return to action Saturday when they host Lehighton (2-4-0, 5-4-0).
