Northwestern girls soccer results look similar to ‘24

It can be tough to compare high school teams from different seasons, but it’s also tough to avoid the temptation.

Comparing the 2025 Northwestern girls soccer team to the league, district and undefeated state champion team from 2024 may not seem fair but the comparison works.

In its first three games last season, Northwestern outscored its opponents 19-0. This season, the Tigers are right on the mark with three wins totaling a 19-0 score.

In 2024, the defense allowed just 12 goals all season and the first goal it allowed came against Bangor in game four. Game four this season is against Jim Thorpe, and the Lady Tigers are hoping to extend their scoreless game streak to four.

After games against a pair of nonleague opponents, Northwestern (2-0 overall, 1-0 Colonial) officially opened defense of last season’s league championship against Palmerton (1-2, 0-2) and showed no mercy as they downed the Blue Bombers 7-0. Sophomore Juliet Snyder got her first hat trick of the season in the win and junior Sophia Schaffer added two goals to give herself at least one goal in each game this season. Seniors Kiersten Klein and Mykaela Yanders topped the scoring when they both added a goal.

Senior goalie Olivia Rinehart made her first save of the season in the win over Palmerton.

Schaffer leads the team in goals (7), assists (7), and points (21) as she looks to surpass her 2024 total of 40 goals and 30 assists. Snyder is second on the team with four goals through the first three games.

Northwestern is in the middle of a stretch of five straight road games. The Tigers go to Jim Thorpe (0-4, 0-1), Blue Mountain (2-0) and Notre Dame of Green Pond (2-1, 1-1) for their next three games.
