Hornets remain undefeated
The Emmaus High School boys soccer team had one of its most challenging weeks of the regular season so far.
In a busy, four-game week with all Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games, the Hornets won their first two games at the start of the week and had ties in the last two games of the week to remain unbeaten.
Last Monday, Sep. 15, Emmaus defeated Northampton 1-0 and followed that with a 4-0 victory against Bethlehem Catholic the next day.
The Hornets tied with Freedom 1-1 Thursday and came away with a 0-0 draw at Easton Saturday morning.
In the win over the Kids, Ben Grossi tallied the lone goal for Emmaus in the second half after a scoreless first half. The two teams each finished with 12 shots overall and three on goal.
The Hornets had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Will Peck finished with three saves in net.
In the victory against the Golden Hawks, Emmaus went on top 1-0 in the first half, but added much needed insurance with three goals in the second half.
Canyon Reinhardt finished with two goals and Austen Breisch and Conner Powell found the back of the net once each. Noah Tintle, Maseyn Muthard and Anthony Suida each contributed an assist. The Hornets totaled 29 shots, 21 on goal, and did not allow one defensively. Gavin Yartymyk was not forced into action in net.
Emmaus took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but saw the Patriots tie the score with a goal in the second half. Two scoreless overtime periods brought the tie. Gabriel Reyes had the goal for the Green Hornets with an assist by Brennan Stack. Both teams finished with nine total shots and six on goal. Yartymyk finished with five saves.
Against the Red Rovers, Emmaus was outshot 9-8 overall and 7-5 on goal. Peck made seven saves in net.
Emmaus, which is now 9-0-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the conference, hosted East Stroudsburg South Monday, plays at Stroudsburg Wednesday and welcomes Pleasant Valley Thursday.
