Hallal hat trick leads to win over Freedom

The Parkland High School girls soccer team had a tough end to the 2024 campaign last year, falling in the championship games of both the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and District 11 tournaments. The Trojans are looking to get over the hump and finish with gold in 2025.

Parkland opened its season on the road and came away with a 4-0 conference victory over Freedom last Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 26, and followed that with a 3-0 win against Easton in the home opener last Thursday.

In the victory over the Patriots, Isabella Hallal did most of the scoring for her team, finishing with a hat trick. Mackenzie McNeely rounded out the scoring with a goal and an assist. Parkland tallied 17 shots and the defense did not allow one, so goalies Hanna Hertzog and Keira Schearer combined for zero saves. The Trojans had a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks.

In the win against the Red Rovers, Parkland scored a goal in the first half and two more in the second half. Hallal, McNeely and Avery Maier each found the back of the net once. The Trojans outshot Easton 20-2 and Hertzog finished with two saves in net.

Parkland, which is 2-0 overall and in the conference, played at East Stroudsburg North Wednesday afternoon and hosts Stroudsburg Friday afternoon, both conference matchups. The Trojans are then at Pleasant Valley Monday night.
