Furry fashionistas will take the stage Oct. 5

Barktoberfest, the township’s dog-themed fall festival, will be held 1-4 p.m. Oct. 5 at Grange Park, 360 Grange Road.

The day will feature several contests including Best Costume, Most Excited and Loudest Bark and a wide array of vendors and food.

A local K-9 unit will make an appearance to demonstrate their incredible skills.

This event is free to attend and dogs are optional. If you do decide to bring your furry friend, make sure they are on a leash and up-to-date on vaccinations.

All dogs attending must be friendly toward people and other dogs.

Upper Macungie Township has partnered with Wildlands Conservancy to offer individuals and families the opportunity to partake in its Family Fun with Wildlands Conservancy 7-8 p.m. Oct. 3 at Breinigsville Park Pavilion and Field, 8935 Breinigsville Road, Breinigsville.

The program is Creepy Crawlies and Candy Hunt. Get ready for a wild night of frights and delights!

The Wildlands Conservancy will kick things off with a thrilling live animal and insect show – meet some real-life creepy crawlies up close. Then, grab your flashlights and head into their glow-in-the-dark field for a candy hunt.

There is a small cost to participate.

The township will offer its Yoga Flow featuring a vinyasa style, linking energetic movement with breath, creating a continuous and flowing practice 5-6 p.m. Tuesdays Oct. 7 through Nov. 11 at Veterans Elementary Gymnasium.

This class is suitable for beginners or those wishing to reconnect with their practice. Modifications will be provided for those with varying levels of experience.

Each session will focus on fundamental poses (or asanas), breathing techniques and mind-body focus emphasizing the connection between physical movement and mental awareness.

Participants should bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

Upper Macungie Township, in partnership with Donna Barats, will offer two indoor fall Zumba programs.

The sessions will take place 6-7 p.m. Mondays Oct. 6 through Nov. 10 at Jaindl Elementary School and Wednesdays Oct. 8 through Nov. 12 at Veterans Elementary School.

These 6-week Zumba sessions will improve your cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, all while making friends and having a blast.

The township will show the movie “Wicked” (PG) Oct. 17 at Lone Lane Park.

Trick-or-treating and pre-movie activities will start 5:30 p.m. and the movie will run approximately 6:30-9 p.m.

Come show your costume early this year and join them on the Trunk or Treat Trail.

This community event will feature trick-or-treating along a kid friendly haunted trail, pumpkin painting, craft stations and more.

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1028 Church St., Fogelsville, will hold its fall basket social 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4. Preview night will take place 6-8 p.m. Oct. 3.

Tickets may be purchased/placed both days; take-out food items will be available only Oct. 4.

Zion’s Union Church Maxatawny, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, will hold its Apple Dumpling Festival 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11. They have filled their craft spaces and secured The Perk-up Truck and Casa de Empanada food trucks for the festival.

Organizers are seeking gift baskets/items for the basket raffle and donations of desserts to sell at the dessert table.

Ziegels Union Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville, will offer a mosaic class 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Fellowship Hall. Participants will learn the history of mosaics and create their very own mosaic.

The class will be hands-on and will include messy material, so dress appropriately. There is a cost for each project and participants have their choice to create a cross, turtle, mushroom or a garden stone.

Please include your choice of shape, along with your payment and place it in the Fellowship mailbox.

All reservations must be made by Oct. 12 to give KBDee Mosaics enough time to prepare the materials needed. For more information, call the church office at 610-285-6157.

Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, will take orders for Kauffman Chicken Barbecue dinners until Oct. 6. The dinners will include a half chicken, baked potato, applesauce and roll with the dinner. Pickup will be 4-6 p.m. Oct. 11.

Also available are apple dumplings cooked fresh by church members with or without brown sugar syrup.

Your apple dumpling order can be picked up together with your chicken order.
