LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

MAMA’S MUSINGS By Lani Goins

Around we go

Here we go again. My ex changed jobs. I have lost track of how many times this makes. He sells used cars. The first week of his new job, I offered to drop youngest son off to him, as we were visiting my daughter’s boyfriend’s parents’ house for his birthday party. This weekend, we had the Celtic Classic and Lehigh Parents Weekend. So no parking around my home. Ex was already running late. I walked our youngest outside a few minutes early, because of the aforementioned events. So ex is now late on top of late. He texts me “driving around, no parking.”

DUH!

I tell him to just double park. Yeah, I know, but lots of people do it. He replies, “Be outside.” Eye roll. I respond, “We already are.”

To be honest, I only realized it was Lehigh Parents Weekend when I saw lots of older people, many wearing Lehigh U shirts, accompanying younger people to local restaurants. I did know about the Celtic Classic. The parking authority makes all the lots and garages a flat $15 for the festival. I knew that too, because a friend posted about it on Friday. The BPA did not post it until Saturday, even though the lots were $15 on Friday, too. Surprise!

Just wait till we move. There is some street parking, though again the close spots are metered. My older son walks to his jobs, mostly, and wanted to stay close to them. He works in the business district on both sides of the river. So parking is going to remain an issue for a while.

What really made me laugh is there is one rear parking spot for the new place, but he said there is a high risk of being blocked in. Um, no thank you. I don’t deal well with being blocked in. I doubt anyone does, really.

So, we both visited the BPA on different days. There is absolutely no permit-parking for the new place. So, one monthly fee for a nearby lot, or a parking garage. The garage fee is higher. I am still deciding which to absorb. It would be nice, though significantly more expensive, to keep the car sheltered. I am trying to decide if it is worth it.

I am also concerned about exiting the garage, though I have only seen it be a problem during evening rush. Still, we have at least one evening rush extracurricular to drive to. Cue mommy stress. So we’ll see. I’m sort of putting that decision off for another week or two. We have enough going on already. I have two simple but big things to do right now, and I think I have spent more time thinking about them than I will actually doing them.

Then there is the everyday stuff, and PACKING. Yes, it is that daunting. Thankfully I have two sources for nice boxes, which is totally amazing. Now, I just have to fill them.
