Main Streets cleans up
The Catasauqua Main Streets group held its annual fall borough cleanup Sept. 27. Main Streets typically holds two cleanup events, one in the spring and the second in autumn.
The event drew a nice turnout, with members from Scout Troop 94 assisting the effort. Troop 94 is based at Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St. Main Streets leader and borough Councilmember Kim Brubaker helped spearhead the cleanup.
Troop 94 Scout leaders Jay Deitzel and Brandie Siegmund coached Scouts Sophia and Cecilia Deitzel, Alec and Owen Siegmund and Audrey Yencha in trash pickup safety and teamwork. Donna Allen, of Catasauqua, brought her grandchildren, Miles and Brian Allen, to participate in the cleanup. Former Councilman David Bernini and his daughter Elena also assisted in the effort.
Main Streets is affiliated with Historic Catasauqua Preservation Association, which grants 501(c)3 status to the nongovernmental organization. Main Streets provides numerous activities aimed at beautifying the borough and strengthening community ties between Catasauqua residents and businesses.
Main Streets’ mission is the “revitalization through art and beautification in the Catasauqua business district. The organized group is dedicated to building the best future for our downtown community and businesses.”
Earlier this year, Main Streets teamed up with Pastor Brian Riedy. of Holy Trinity, in a Hearts of Catasauqua program. Riedy is also a staunch community activist guided by his religious faith, reaching out to those in need and working to improve the borough and surrounding communities.
